I am an experienced caring, professional Lactation Consultant. I offer a comprehensive lactation consultation in my office or in the privacy of your home.  I will take a history of mom and baby’s health and breastfeeding problems as well as a short history of the birth. I bring with me a digital infant scale. I will use the scale for a pre and post feeding weight, which will help us see how much milk baby transferred. I will observe you breastfeed your baby and offer suggestions to make the breastfeeding more comfortable and effective. I will answer your questions and provide information and resources. I have breastfeeding products with me if needed to help with breastfeeding. We will come up with a feeding plan together that you feel comfortable with. The consultation includes a couple of free follow-up phone calls. I welcome for free your phone calls or emails after our consultation regarding the breastfeeding problem. I will fax a complete report to the baby’s doctor and any health care providers as appropriate.

The initial consult is generally 2 hours. The follow up consults if needed are usually 1-1 ½  hours.

My services don’t stop after the consultation: I am available to work with you and answer your questions and concerns until you no longer need my services.

I offer private classes in breastfeeding, going back to work or school, starting solids and babywearing.

I provide a discount for military families and a sliding scale for families who are out of work.

I will provide you with a referral that your Pediatrician can sign. You will be given a receipt for our services with the diagnostic code required by insurance companies. Included is detailed information of our appointment and instructions on how to file for reimbursement.

Facts to Support Your Insurance Claim for
Lactation Consultation Services
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that all babies be breastfed for at least one year (PEDIATRICS Vol. 115 No. 2 February 2005, pp. 496-506).

  • When breastfeeding difficulties occur, the AAP recommends that mothers and babies be seen by an IBCLC.

  • The AAP further recommends that third party insurance reimbursements be made for such IBCLC services.

  • Extensive research over many decades has proven that NOT breastfeeding results in significantly higher healthcare costs as a result of higher rates of maternal and child illness and disease. For this reason, the AAP recommendation for insurance reimbursements for IBCLC services is a cost saving measure to insurance companies.

  • Action #11 of the 2011 US Surgeon General's Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding calls for insurance companies to "Ensure access to services provided by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants."

I am finding that many of my clients are receiving insurance reimbursement, so submitting a claim and appealing initial denials are always worth the effort. Even if the services are not covered by insurance, the claim should be reimbursable if you have a Flex Spending account.

I rent Medela and Hygeia pumps and scales and I sell any breastfeeding supply that we would need during a consultation.

This makes an excellent shower or new baby gift that can be used at a time most convenient for mom and has no expiration date. I can mail this to either you or to mom directly.
